I have some older stuff by this band that I have yet to review, but I figured I'd start with this new EP of devastating black/death from these maniacs. The harsh, haunting vocals are discreet enough not to overshadow the blazing instruments here, but they sure add one hell of an evil, kind of demented vibe to the whole thing. The guitars are, simply put, downright heavy and ear-shredding, the kind of stuff that just makes you want to scream, "metal!" Unfortunately, I find that some passages are held back by some dull drum work. It's only in a few spots, but it's kind of distracting and surprising considering that elsewhere the drum work takes no prisoner. That's a little nitpicking and not enough to dwell too much over considering that overall this is a nice little slab of raw, fast and heavy black/death that begs for repeat plays and makes you hanker for an album full of this stuff.
