Chaos Wasteland are a Canadian Black/Thrash group that formed in 2019, and their name really says it all. What we have here on their debut EP is a fun slab of energetic Black/Thrash with a very strong punk sensibility to the songwriting, which really makes me nostalgic for my old hardcore-punk days as a teenager (that was a long friggin time ago, let me tell you). The bass work is nicely loud and upfront, the caveman yapping of vocalist Isaï Flamand is feral and even a bit intimidating, and the songs are all wild and punky, especially "Bloodlust" and the almost purely Hardcore Punk stylings of "Lo Pagarás". Closer "War Crimes" is much closer to straight Black/Thrash, sounding similar to a Nuclear Assault song, especially with Flamand going absolutely berserk behind the mic, and it kills pretty hard as well. Bottom line, this is a solid EP made for Friday nights of drinking and partying with metalhead and punk fans alike, and who could argue with that? |
