Review

Sixth album for this Spanish band that plays crunchy, Euro power metal in the tradition of Stormwarrior, Wizard, Rebellion, etc. Speed, gritty vocals, and songs about epic battles are Vhäldemar's bread and butter and they have settled into a groove which adheres to all the conventions of their chosen style. Songs like "Death to the Wizard!" "Straight to Hell" and "Black Mamba" are nothing you haven't heard before but are no less fun to shout along to because of that fact. The songwriting isn't as amazing as their last album (2017's Against All Kings), but it is good enough that Straight to Hell, while sounding familiar, keeps the "generic" tag at arm's length. If you like your power metal to have plenty of crunch, you can pick up Straight to Hell without reservation.
