I've been listening to this album a lot lately. Heretical Sect may hail from New Mexico, but their music is anything but shiny. This is very heavy blackened death metal with some infusion of doom, and by heavy I mean that it literally pins you down when it's on—it sounds and feels heavy. Very crushing sound. The vocals are powerful, deep and raucous and really add an evil, sometimes desperate feeling to the music. While the album has its speedy moments, I find that the slower doomy moments are the most effective and memorable, really cranking up their already crushing heaviness all the way up to eleven. The atmosphere that the music conveys is pure darkness and evil, something many bands try to achieve but not many get it so right. Rapturous Flesh Consumed could be the soundtrack of your journey to hell and you'd be all smiles the whole way.
