Eximperitus (short for Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum—go ahead, say that quickly, just once) hail from Belarus and play some eerie and creepy technical death metal that sometimes remind me a little of the first time I heard Nile's Black Seeds of Vengeance. The two bands don't sound alike, but Šahrartu conveys a similar dark, heavy and eerie atmosphere that can creep you out. The music is largely slow paced with the emphasis put on heaviness. The guitar work is a mix of crunchy and sharp guitars, basically its metal foundation, and more intricate and melodic background playing that adds a mysterious vibe to the ensemble, to great effect. The low, deep growls are the perfect accompaniment to the music and they throw in a few sound effects here and there that add a lot to the atmosphere rather than sound gimmicky. If you're tired of always hearing death metal that sounds like a hundred others, give Šahrartu a try. |
