Review

Funeral Doom can be a hard genre to get right, as it needs to be slow and heavy, with a lot of mood and atmosphere, and if you don't nail it, you just get slow music that does not have enough ideas to sustain it. I say that by way of telling you that the grandly-named one-man band My Death Belongs to You are not bad, but they don't really nail it. This has a good production that gives the music a lot of depth and space, and it does things right as far as making compositional structures that build tension rather than resolving it, but the musical ideas at play here are just not good enough to really carry you through the long songs. All five of these tracks sound pretty much the same, and they sound the same all the way through, following the standard formula of a quiet part and then a heavy part and then another quiet part and so on, but the songwriting does not manage to make the changes seem to make sense, and so they are just arbitrary shifts. This has a good overall sound, and you won't turn it off, but it doesn't have a lot of substance.
