Review

I went into Necrophobic's The Third Antichrist from 1999 expecting some serious death metal, having no previous experience with the band. Sure, death metal it is, but I was not expecting the blend of black and death metal to be so catchy while remaining punishingly brutal. Look, I like my music to be melodic, that's where my roots are so I can get behind black metal or death metal if it is melodic enough and, damn, The Third Antichrist checks all the boxes. Blast beats, fast guitar picking, and unholy growls are tied together with massive riffing and a sense of flow that is undeniable yet robs the songs of none of their power. The guitar tone is excellent and the vocals perfect complements. There isn't a bad song and from "The Third of Arrivals" through "Demonic" the whole album just rips with vengeful wrath and ass-kicking metallic power. The Third Antichrist is an album I took a chance on and am so glad I did as it is excellent.
