Death Kommander are a Scottish Death Metal band that are all about what I call War Metal, which is Metal that is all about war and not that Black/Death thing that everyone else uses the term for. I guess it's inevitable for every Death Metal band focusing on war to take inspiration from Bolt Thrower, because Pro Patria Mori works in that same brand of brutal, groove-laden Death Metal that rolls like the treads of a tank and crushes everything in its path without mercy. They aren't a clone act, however, as they rely a bit more on mid-paced pounding than Bolt Thrower, but the resemblance is uncanny. Thankfully, Death Kommander are also really good at their blatant worship, with plenty of heaviness to spare and even some solid bass work that gets plenty of prominence in the mix. Their songs never really vary in pace or execution, but rather than make it interchangeable and dull, they hit that sweet spot of being hypnotic and engaging, and while it may all be a shameless imitation of an old legend, it's a damn good imitation for all that. Recommended. |
