Quick hitter from Sweden's Eternal Evil, this being their 2019 demo which is getting the old-school cassette treatment from Redefining Darkness Records. The songs on Rise of Death are blackened thrash inspired by Hellhammer, Venom and maybe a little early Megadeth. Everything is played fast and the muddy sound, while charming in its vibe, results in everything bleeding together and one song sounds a lot like the next. I do really like the artwork as it is totally '80s, DIY, befitting something you would have gotten in the mail back in the early days of tape trading. Musically, this is like so much of the black/thrash out there and being a demo with the associated limitations, it doesn't do anything you haven't heard a multitude of times before. Eternal Evil have the energy dialed in, but the songwriting is a work in progress. |
