There isn't much to say about Malakhim's Theion that hasn't been said about a load of other black metal albums. This Swedish band plays orthodox black metal without surprises, pretty much sticking to what you expect from the genre. But they do it well and, as I've said many times before, that's really what counts. Theion is filled with wall-to-wall second-wave black metal that will keep your ears busy with its full, rich sound and its haunting, malevolent atmosphere that sometimes gets under the skin. It's mostly fast stuff but it's loaded with dark melodies and sometimes get kind of melancholic and a little depressing, all without skipping a beat as the whole thing just flows flawlessly from beginning to end. Recommended. |
