The fourth album from Obliveon is generally regarded to be the worst of their output, and it's not hard to see why. Carnivore Mothermouth picks up where Cybervoid left off, only there's even less of their old Technical Thrash roots on display and much more of the cold, mechanical Groove they adopted on that release. The closest comparison I can make to what this album sounds like is if you took Fear Factory's Digimortal and Sepultura's A-lex and shoved them in a nuclear reactor, only that's not fair because Carnivore Mothermouth predates both of those releases. I dunno, it's still plenty heavy, and in small doses it's pretty cool, like on the more organic tracks such as the crushing "Love, Die, Resurrect" and the experimental "Devil in My Eyes," but for their swansong album, I'm afraid Obliveon took their experimentation too far from what made them great to begin with. It's not without its moments, but if you're new to this band, this is the last place you'd want to start your journey, because it's almost an entirely different band, and nowhere near as good. |
