Strange that I never heard of these guys before, but then again, I can say that of a hell of a lot of bands. Ondskapt are back after some 10 years with an album filled with largely speedy black metal in the Swedish style of the late '90s and early 2000s, in other words, it's blasting, destructive and, in this specific instance, delivered with laser precision. It's actually kind of catchy in a dark and disturbing way. There are some really good slower passages that bank on atmosphere and some of that stuff can creep you out and almost makes me regret that the whole album isn't like that, but then again maybe that would get old after a while. The vocals are sometimes haunting, sometimes play evil and other times more on the anguished side, with some clean-ish part thrown in that thankfully don't sound out of place. It's a busy album with a full and clean sound and multiple listens will keep unearthing more of its intricacies. |
