Aw yeah, now this is the shit right here. So many bands cross the lines between Death and Black Metal without getting the fundamentals right, not this band. They get a primal, raw guitar sound that reminds me of the glory days of Faustcoven, and they thug primitive, doomy riffs that are like getting chopped up with a meat cleaver—a heavy meat cleaver. This draws on that proto-thrashing sound like Hellhammer and drags it through an acre of Entombed buzzsaw crunch. The vocals are a deep-throated bellow of hatred, and the songs thunder and pound along with just enough atmosphere to lift this above the usual. This is a short album, at just over half an hour, but it's got enough primitive, gut-churning heaviness to go around. |
