Ian Highhill is the former singer from Olympos Mons and Man in White is his debut solo album. Having sung for a popular power metal band, you might be expecting something along those lines from Man in White, but hold your horses. The music is certainly melodic, venturing nowhere near any of the extreme genres, but it has elements of hard rock, doom and NWOBHM running through the songs. There are rockers ("Hellstream"), ballads ("Dark Muddy Waters") and dark anthems ("Good Nightmare") and the overall sound had me thinking of bands like High Spirits with a bit of Weapon UK and even Blue Oyster Cult woven into the album's fabric. None of the songs jumped out at me but the whole album is solid with nothing I wanted to skip. If a blend of late '70s hard rock and early '80s doomy heavy metal sounds like a winner to you, Man in White is worth checking out. |
