Greek Death/Thrash horde Rapture have been blasting out killer music since their inception in 2012, steadily releasing new albums since 2015 and improving at the same rate. They continue this trend on their third album, Malevolent Demise Incarnation, which one the one hand doesn't see them changing their already derivative formula, but then goes on to use the other hand to smash your skull in for thinking that's supposed to be a criticism. They still bash out brutal Death/Thrash that's somewhere between Malevolent Creation and Solstice (not that one, the Death Metal band from Florida), built on heavy, meaty riffs and a startling degree of technicality in the musicianship, especially in Giorgos' top-notch drum work. They flirt a little with Black Metal riffing on "After Your Eternity", but for the most part they focus on spinning out relentless and well-crafted Death/Thrash, only with tighter performances and more professional songwriting than before. You won't find anything surprising from Rapture, but they make exactly the kind of music that'll make you go berserk in a mosh pit as it kicks your teeth to the back of your throat, and really, what more could you ask of them? Strongly recommended. |
