Paradox Community is a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band out of Germany. The Promo material has this band together since 2007, even though this is their debut album. Usually when you read something like this, it doesn't exactly fill you with confidence as a reviewer as to what you are getting ready to listen to. I have listened to this four times now and I can confirm, my trepidation was well founded.

The Good: There are some catchy riffs peppered throughout this album and moments that really work. The lead guitar work is actually pretty good with some really nice leads that aren't your normal shred fest. Lots of melody within the solos that sounds like some genuine care was put into the note selection.

The Bad: This album is ENTIRELY too long. Clocking in at almost an hour, some of these songs would be better off being edited. The catchy riffs I mentioned in the section above gets lost in some of these songs. Some of these songs sound like they are two or three songs in one. That is where I believe editing would have been very helpful. You take a solid 15-20 minutes out and you will have a MUCH better album. Most of the songs are mid-tempo and the vocals seem like they really don't fit this style. If I had to give a comparison of the band, I would say a slower and not nearly as interesting version of the band Rage. The production isn't doing them any favors either. The drums sound completely lifeless and the aforementioned vocals are too forward in the mix. Considering this album was 14 years in the making, maybe they just overthought this. I don't know if these songs have been around for most of that time, but it feels like there were some good ideas here and there but they just overworked them.

Overall, it might be a fine album for some background noise but that's as far as I can go. You won't be missing much by passing on this one. Maybe next time.
