Timebomb is probably the first album in U.D.O.'s discography that really reminds me of the many albums that were to follow. Fast, heavy, catchy as fuck (try to get the title track out of your head—good luck with that) with lots of razor-sharp guitars. There's a lot of melody, which is pretty much a staple of U.D.O.'s sound, but here it's not as predominant as on Faceless World and this album feel much heavier and "more metal." And, seriously, there's no shortage of speed here either, and you'll mess up your neck trying to headbang to some of this stuff. I could either go on about this or cut it short, and I like short reviews, so let's cut to the chase: Solid heavy metal that takes no prisoners and packs a lot of punch, the kind of stuff pretty much anyone into '80s-style heavy metal should enjoy. |
