Like countless bands, Cirith Ungol got cheated out of promoting a new album by 2020 (and, so far, 2021). The band decided to get busy and unearth four unreleased tracks, rework them and release the package as an EP. This is Cirith Ungol through and through. Kind of epic, heavy, somewhat doomy but not too much. Textbook Cirith Ungol, really, which makes this really cool for fans of the band. The signature vocals are definitely the highlight here, what I found most memorable once the EP is done playing. The title track is especially memorable. It's mostly slow paced with some great vocal works and really highlights the band's roots in '70s and '80s music, while not sounding dated one bit (something that can also be said of the other three songs). There's nothing surprising here, just Cirith Ungol doing their thing and doing it very well, delivering catchy old-school heavy metal that rocks. |
