Former Accept guitarist Herman Frank has released his fifth album of bruising heavy metal, Two for a Lie. There are no surprises for anyone familiar with his prior releases as it is full of satisfying riffs, excellent lead work and the gruff yet clear shouts of Rick Altzi. The songwriting is a notch or two above some of Frank's previous albums with songs like "Venom" and "Stand Up and Fight" kicking all kinds of ass and taking names left and right. There's not one single weak track on Two for a Lie and it is the kind of album that leaves you wondering, "is it really over already?" as the closer "Open Your Mind" finally fades. This is a case of not recreating the wheel, just following well-worn paths laid down by Accept, Paragon and Wolf and doing it very well indeed. Get Two for a Lie if you like smash-mouth yet melodic heavy metal that will leave you wanting more. |
