After many years (and many EPs), Killing Addiction are out with their second full-length studio album. With their first one, Omega Factor, having been released back in 1993, I was expecting maybe something rather different but overall I'd say the band have stuck to their guns and kept things old school, brutal and heavy and largely picked up where they left off. I'm not as bothered by the vocals on this one as I was on Omega Factor, so I guess they work better with this new material. While I get a good kick out of the no-holds-barred, heavy mid-paced death metal on display here, it's the slower parts that tend to catch my attention the most with a kind of creepy, dark vibe that hints at nothing good for your well-being if you keep going forward—that kind of, "uh-oh" feeling that you're in for a good beating. Good stuff. :) Mind of a New God, like many other old-school death metal albums, doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it's nice to see Killing Addiction still going at it and showing they still got what it takes to come up with a solid slab of pounding, heavy death metal goodness. |
