I wasn't drawn in by 2012's Fit for Fight, so I haven't been paying much attention to Witch Cross over the years. I decided to give this new one a try and I've been having a lot of fun listening to it over the past few weeks. The album has a crisp, clean sound that you wouldn't find some 40 years ago, but other than that it's quite reminiscent of one would have heard in the early '80s. Melodic and catchy yet heavy and crunchy enough with plenty of great guitar riffs and solos, all of which really throw you back in time, even as far back to the '70s at times. The singer, while he doesn't quite sound like Saxon's Biff Byford, nonetheless reminds me a lot of him more often than not on the album. Angel of Death has that sound that you could hear from the heavier NWOBHM bands, but they also incorporate the so-called U.S. Metal sound of those days, making for a great mix. This is one that those who can't get enough "newer old-school heavy metal" should definitely check out.
