Hacked to Death is the full-length debut of Detherous, who play solid Death/Thrash. I am tempted to simply end the review there because this album is exactly what you would expect from a perfectly good Death/Thrash band that doesn't really stand out from all the other perfectly good Death/Thrash bands. The riffs range from blistering, face-yanking speed to pounding chugging, the songs themselves are short, sweet, and to the point, and the vocals are an undistinguished bark that neither add nor detract to the proceedings. If that all sounds typical to you, that's because it is, but while I don't see myself listening to this a lot in the future, I can easily say that there's enough feral energy and solid lead work for me to believe they can make something that sticks out more in the future. As is, Detherous are a band that you won't remember much about after you listen to them, but you'll remember having fun while doing it. |
