Warmoon Lord may be a one-man band, but it really sounds like there's a full lineup behind this album. Battlespells is the full black metal experience, with elements from the early second wave all the way to the early 2000s, with some epic-sounding passages that remind me of Graveland around the turn of the millennium, kind of medieval, that old sound that some bands do right, Warmoon Lord being one of them. There's nothing particularly original here, but I enjoy this album a lot. It's a great mix of the raw, fast style of black metal and the more polished, melodic and borderline epic style. Battlespells is a wall-to-wall black metal fest filled with songs reminiscent of the heydays of the genre, and it's a real treat. |
