This is one of those albums that I find doesn't necessarily stand out (keep in mind I listen to hundreds of new albums every year), but it's pretty damn cool while it's on. Deiquisitor play a brand of old-school death metal that's kind of muddy (in a good way) and is firmly rooted in the late '80s and early '90s schools of death metal, borrowing a little from different scenes. That doesn't make them original, but sometimes—most times, really—this doesn't matter. This is heavy death metal that crushes, fast paced enough but with slower moments to keep things in balance, and the deep growls sound like they're from beyond the grave. If old-school death metal is your thing, this album is certainly worth a listen. |
