Hailing from Tampere, Finland comes Rain of Terror, a young act that's only been around since 2018 and works to be as old-school as it gets, and I'm not only talking about their music. See, these lads actually mailed me a vinyl copy of this album (my sincere thanks, guys!), which is the only real format for this kind of sound as far as I'm concerned, and certainly not the kind of promo I usually get. But enough about that, let's talk about the music. Witch Hunt is a workout in good ol' fashioned Crossover Thrash with a mild blackened twist like you'd hear from Bonehunter. This is as simple and straightforward as that would imply, with thrashing riffs, rocking energy, and rough caveman vocals, and even a very prominent bass sound in the mix for extra heaviness. They aren't the most professional players in the world, but that's a mark of quality in my book, because who the hell wants highly refined music from a band following the path of rough, dirty bands like Venom and D.R.I.? All you need is enough aggressive, punky attitude to keep the music fast and fun, and these Finnish bastards do it well enough that I'll be checking them out live the first chance I get. A band to watch. |
