The other band of Horn mainman Nerrath, this is a German Doom band who actually sound very Swedish. Cross Vault have put out three albums, and they sometimes get compared to extremely melancholic Doom like Warning or Funeral, but really, I hear a lot more Trad Doom like Thunderstorm, Forsaken, or Pale Divine in the mix here. The riffs are big, melodic, and heavy, with a mournful tone that fits very well. Nerrath's clean vocals have always been good in Horn, and in this band he can push even more, sounding raw but still very polished and powerful. The riff writing is more memorable than the songwriting, but it's still pretty good. Songs like the title cut and "Gods Left Unsung" will definitely hit the spot for Doom fans. |
