Space Chaser is a thrash band that has chosen not to follow the popular Bay Area thrash template or even a Euro sound, both of which are getting to a point of oversaturation, like they did in the late '80s/early '90s (what goes around, comes around). Their music has more of a traditional heavy metal base though it is still fast, loud, and crunchy. They have a warmer sound with a less rigid playing style compared to the more stylized and triggered approach of so many other thrash bands of the day. I liken the songs on Give us Life to early Overkill, a time when it was clear that classic New Jersey band played thrash but wore their Priest, Maiden, etc. influences on their sleeves. I don't think there is anything overly amazing on this album, but it has a refreshing sound, so it's hard not to bang your head to "Antidote to Order" or "Remnants of Technology." If you're hankering for something other than Bay Area/Euro thrash, Space Chaser is a band to check out. |
