Feast at the Forbidden Tree is the third album from Boston's Black Mass a band that plays fast, loud black/thrash. The approach is similar to may other acts playing this style, but Black Mass add a few twists here and there like the opening instrumental with its creepy sound effects ("Intro") and some acoustic music toward the end of "Betrayal". Otherwise, this band is out to aurally assault you with track after track of machine gun riffing, howitzer drums and evil singing. It's a satisfying, if not genre-defining album that takes the lessons of Venom, Possessed, Slayer, etc. and hatefully brings them into the 21st century for all to enjoy. If you are into Bewitcher, Midnight, SEAX, etc., this is going to be right up your alley. |
