I've found this album to be surprisingly addictive even though brutal death metal is something I usually only take in small doses. I guess I'm becoming more extreme with age. ;) This is one of those albums that flirts with both speedy and slow, heavy death metal. The speedy parts will break your neck if you try to headbang along, whereas the slowest parts are so heavy that it can feel like you're being pinned to the ground, if not downright crushed by a tank. I like how throughout all this they incorporated some tamer, thrashy guitar parts that feel like a razor blade and give some songs some added punch by bringing some more traditional metal into the mix. The vocals are especially notable. There are some spoken bits and pieces that I found kind of distracting (and sometimes silly) and some pig-squealish ones that I have yet to digest. The deep growls are the best, completely indecipherable but quite fit for the music overall. This is not accessible in any way, except for the aforementioned occasional thrashy parts, but with a name like that, it's pretty obvious who is the band's target audience. Cool stuff. |
