Swedish thrashers Insane formed back in 2009, releasing a litany of demos and EPs before finally getting the debut full-length, Evil, released back in 2019. I'm unfamiliar with any of their prior work, so I have no idea how it compares to this album, but considering how good this is, I might need to change that sooner rather than later. Their sophomore album, Victims, is an intense workout in old-school Thrash somewhere between early Slayer and Tank, with the punky vocals of guitarist Gustaf reminding me a bit of Power Trip. If that description doesn't spell it out, these guys don't give a damn about making anything unique or inventive, they just want to make something that could have been released in the Golden Age, and they've done a fine job of it, right down to sporting a production that could have come straight from the '80s. There aren't any real standouts on here, but that just means every song is a tight, blistering workout in harsh, aggressive Thrash that'll fly by quickly and leave you fumbling for the repeat button in no time. Recommended. |
