Sky Crypt is a Russian band that plays melodic death metal and appears to be telling an ongoing story (or at least dealing with a common theme) on their second album, Incipit Anarchia: Eternity, which follows their debut, Incipit Anarchia: The Element of Anger. I'd like to give you some specifics about this album, but it is simple, standard melodic death metal in the Swedish style with throaty growls, sharp riffing, and smooth keyboards. None of the songs are bad and I actually enjoy this album while it is on, but these ears don't hear much that sounds different from what bands like Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility and At the Gates pioneered back in the '90s. I'm not accusing Sky Crypt of ripping anyone off, but they are following the template quite closely, resulting in an enjoyable but somewhat generic release. Fans with keener ears may be able to zero in on additional nuances and, as I said, I liked Incipit Anarchia: Eternity well enough, I just can't recall much after it is over.
