Eulogy for the Gods is the third album by Claymorean that I have reviewed (out of the five they've released) and it is easily the best so far. The band has continued to refine and improve their blend of power and epic metal leading to this album where things all come together beautifully. Any time the word "epic" gets thrown around, the name Manilla Road is often not far behind and while Claymorean's cover of "Into the Courts of Chaos" on their Unbroken album speaks to the influence that band has had on them, it was just ok. Their ode to Mark "The Shark" Shelton on Eulogy for the Gods, titled "Lords of Light", an original composition, nails the vibe completely. Mid-paced, with big riffs and a ton of atmosphere, this track, along with others like "The Burning of Rome (Cry for Pompeii)" should have epic fans wailing on their air guitars and delving into the lyrics. Claymorean are equally adept at more direct and punchy songs featuring faster, squealing guitars and harder driving back beats. In general, the lyrics are deeper and more esoteric than your typical traditional metal band as well, and when you combine that with the music and performances, you've got a band honoring those that came before them by creating music that is in the same vein but not imitative. If you love Manilla Road and '80s female-fronted traditional metal such as Chastain or Warlock, Eulogy for the Gods is going to be right up your alley.
