The second album from Finland's first merchants of heavy metal, Sarcofagus, is getting the reissue treatment from Nuclear War Now! Productions this year. Strangely, I had never heard them before (or maybe a couple of random songs without knowing it was them). Unsurprisingly, with the album being originally released in 1980, this has a very strong '70s vibe. There's some of that period's heavy rock, psych rock and the more metallic part share some uncanny resemblance with many NWOBHM bands of the day. There's kind of an occult vibe here and there and the keyboards couldn't possibly be more '70s than this (and, by the way, we have here a very tasteful use of keyboards that are hard to ignore yet are not overwhelming). Lots has been said about this album, but suffice it to say that if you like '70s heavy and occult rock, the NWOBHM and other very early heavy metal, you'll get a kick out of this one.
