This is one of those one-man projects that is insanely productive, sometimes cranking out multiple full-length albums in a single year (This is one of two albums from this year alone). Elffor are staunchly in the field of bands heavily influenced by Summoning, and this is a highly atmospheric brand of melodic Black Metal. With four songs on a 40+ minute album, you know this is made up of long songs, and the epicness is deliberately turned up to 11. There is no shortage of bands of this general type these days, but I have to say Elffor have more identity than most of them, and the sound here is heavier and more aggressive than other bands like this, who often verge all the way into ambient country. The production is murky rather than crystal clear, and the melody is enhanced by layers of sound piled up to make an arcane soundscape. If you like this kind of thing, Ellfor are good at it. |
