Sonus Mortis is a band from Ireland that plays a brand of melodic death metal that does a good job balancing the melody and the death. The songwriting is competent but not exceptional, the vocals a deep, throaty growl and the guitars are sharp against the softer keys. Past Lives is the band's fifth album and while I'm no expert, Gothenburg bands like In Flames and Dark Tranquility come easily to mind while it is on. If you enjoy that sound, you should find Past Lives enjoyable.
