Owl Cave is a one-man group led by someone going under the name S, and the debut Broken Speech is a monster of an album, containing a single 43-minute long instrumental that's somewhere between Post and Sludge in its approach. I'm not normally a fan of either style, but I was willing to give this a shot to see if it could change my mind. Unfortunately, this song seems more interested in being noisy than anything else, consisting mostly of distortion and weird samples than anything really musical, and when stretched out over the course of one long song without any real breaks or variations, it becomes too much very quickly. I'm sure this kind of thing has its fans, but for me, this was an unpleasant chore to sit through. |
