End of Mankind is yet another French band releasing new material that gives France's black metal scene another shot in the arm after a few years in a slump. Their style is quite atmospheric and even a little catchy here and there, but there's a good dose of speed and heaviness that flirts with what was coming out of their scene some 20-odd years ago. The vocals are harsh and convincing, forward enough to drive the whole thing yet without stealing the attention too much. They also have some of that post-black metal thing going on here and there, but even if that's not your thing there's plenty of in-your-face material here to satisfy your black metal needs. Overall a very good, diversified, melodic yet heavy and often aggressive album. |
