ToxicRose play a mix of '80s-style commercial heavy metal (with a dash of glam here and there) and modern melodic power metal on this album. Lots of singalong melodies here with clear, powerful vocals that carry some of the songs all by themselves. It's funny how the singer sometimes sounds cocky as hell while other times he has a harsher, gruffier style. Makes for a nice contrast. The music is mostly upbeat and can brighten a depressing day, though I found that, while it's kind of fun while it's on, I don't remember much once it's over. The cockiest songs have that '80s vibe to them, but there are also several much crunchier and more powerful songs that definitely borrow more from the post-2000 power metal scene—at times I was reminded a little of Metalite, though it's only a short passage here and there. In for the Kill won't revolutionize anything, but its entertainment value for a bit of a party atmosphere cannot be denied. |
