Some massive blackened speed metal insanity here from this Ecuadorian band on their debut mini-album, Bloodlust. I'll start with the bad. This is just over 20 minutes and yet they have a completely useless 3:10 intro (the title track) that could have been cut down to maybe 30 seconds. Even on a full-length album this would have been pushing it. Moving on... Once past the intro, Bloodlust is a pedal-to-the-metal onslaught of raw, savage black/speed metal that shows some strong roots in early to mid-80s dirty, raw speed/thrash/proto-black, the stuff that remained underground even though metal was getting everywhere at the time. Lots of old-school riffage and solos. It's an orgy of chaos, all over the place yet coherent, and with insane out-of-this-world vocals that'll freak out the uninitiated—and even some of the initiated. If you're looking for sweet, refined and polished metal, you won't find it here. This is a bunch of guys hammering away at their instruments to create aural destruction and mayhem and take no prisoners in the process. More, please... |
