This is an album of dense, unfriendly Black Metal very much in the same vein as more esoteric bands like Nightbringer, Akhlys, and Bestia Arcana. The production is good, creating a thick, feral assault of sound, and some of the riffs are solid, even if they are pretty derivative. The songs are pretty long and they tend to go on a bit longer than they should, not doing a lot besides repeating what they already did. The vocals are mostly a standard croak, but they are accented with some effects-laden yelling and intonation that does not really add much. I suppose I must damn this with faint praise, but it really just does not rise above its influences and create anything you have not heard before. It is polished and has a good sound, but it's not doing anything fresh. |
