They say that age mellows you out, that it makes you slow down and get less angry with the world. That is absolutely not the case with Bloodride, who've been working in old-school Thrash since the turn of the millennium, and every release sees them becoming better songwriters and tighter musicians without sacrificing any of their speed or aggression. Idiocracy continues that trend, leaving the Bay Area Thrash base of their sound largely untouched and simply refining it to be faster, angrier, and better than before, with Jyrki's half-barked vocals in particular becoming more hateful and venomous on this release. All that said, songs like "Stranger Roots" and "Preaching to the Choir" actually slow down and lean more on melody and mood, proving that the band is capable of doing more than just snap your neck with blazing, old-school Thrash. At the end of the day, though, this is a Bloodride album through and through, and while it's not doing anything new for the band or the genre, it's certainly the best album Bloodride have done yet. Worth checking out. |
