I didn't really get on board with Sarke's previous album, Gastwerso, which had its moments but too many annoying passages for my taste (your mileage may vary). Allsighr is more up my alley, a melodic blackened heavy/thrash type of affair that kind of stand on its own, somewhat original for a change. I'll skip the extensive name-dropping, but suffice it to say that the members are all or have all been members of known bands and anyone familiar with Darkthrone will recognize Nocturno Culto's vocals, but even compared to Darkthrone's somewhat diverse output on the past few albums, this is something else. Very melodic yet packing in enough heaviness to keep things interesting. Overall, the album has a melancholic vibe, so this is not the kind of stuff you want if you need some cheering up. It's kind of doomy and there's often a '70s vibe to it, which I found quite endearing, for lack of a better word. The album kind of rocks here and there, but that gloomy, doomy atmosphere is omnipresent and you have to be ready for that. Good stuff.
