House by the Cemetary are one of the billion Death Metal bands including the tireless Rogga Johansson, and Rise of the Rotten is exactly the kind of classic, HM-2 driven Swedish Death Metal you'd expect upon reading that. I could arguably end the review there, as outside of an obsession with Italian director Lucio Fulci this does nothing new with the genre nor does it stand out as one of Rogga's better projects. If you've heard Carnage or Entombed, then you know what this sounds like, and while it's a perfectly solid album by itself, it's not doing anything novel or impressive. If you can't get enough of old-school Swedish Death Metal, then this will do you nicely, but there's plenty out there like it. |
