Bohemyst are a Czech outfit consisting of ex-members of luminary acts like Avenger and Master's Hammer, so it's no surprise that their debut is so good. Čerň A Smrt takes the brutality and progressive tendencies of Immolation and mixes them with the sinister, atmospheric elements of Immortal to create an eerie and novel sound. The songs are all densely layered and intense, thanks in no small part to some excellent musicianship and vocals that range from bellowing death grunts to blackened sandpaper shrieks, and the King Diamond-esque samples and effects thrown in make it all feel like the soundtrack to a really good horror movie. Fans of more novel and creepy Black/Death will find a lot to love here. |
