Now here we have a band from Texas doing the NWOTHM thing and doing it really well. I am surprised, checking the lineup, to find there are no members of Eternal Champion involved in this, as it sounds like there ought to be. Ryghar are going more for the epic end of the pool, reminding me of Visigoth, Wrathblade or Graven Rite quite a bit. The songs are melodic, with a lot of pounding riffs and keys for atmosphere. Vocalist "Ryghar Highwind" is a find, as he has a clear, strong voice, yet he can dig down into a rougher sound when he wants some emphasis. This is like the classics of True Metal in that you can put this on and just let it take you away to another world of fire and steel, and you don't want to come back. A band to watch. |
