This landed in my inbox unexpectedly a couple of months ago and it’s been on regular rotation ever since. D.R.B. (which seems to stand for "Dirty Rotten Bastard") play some pretty raw crossover thrash. Nothing pretty here folks, this is 100% in your face. I can only imagine this stuff in a live setting triggering some epic mosh pits. The vocals are barked and loud and really add a lot of aggression to the music, which really didn’t need help in that department. The songs are in English but that are a few French-language passages. The cover of Black Sabbath’s "Paranoid" is pretty cool and, while I still prefer the original (that’s kind of the thing with classics), D.R.B.’s rendition brings it to a whole different level and, once again, the vocals have a lot to do with that. The only part I didn’t like is closer "Wisdom of a Drunk Man," which doesn’t quite fit with the rest to my ears and there’s a short silence followed by some drunken passage (sounds like it anyway). I think the EP would have ended on a better note with the cover. |
