This is a mysterious band that doesn’t even have any named members or a lineup, though it has the sound of a one-man operation. There is a fairly well-established tradition of "vampiric" Black Metal, including bands like Crimson Moon and Mutiilation, and this album is definitely part of that, with the gothic extremes of the song titles and the general sanguinary mood. That said, this is neither primitive nor keyboard-infested black metal, but fairly badass and with some really good songwriting. This reminds me some of bands like Evilfeast or Nehemah, who manage to be well produced and still sound kvlt as fuck. This does not do anything Black Metal bands have already been doing for decades, but the guitar sound is a vicious saw blade of frost and the vocals are a howl of torment. The tremolo riffs are aggressive but have a lot of melodic heft, and the whole thing has a very second-wave sound to it that I just enjoy. Not a groundbreaking album, but a really good one. |
