There are a lot of Black Metal bands on the "Atmospheric" end of the spectrum, and they range from hard-assed bands with some more melody than usual all the way to ambient, but Rift are largely on the harder edge of the pool. Well produced, with a big sound and some really good riffs that create genuine mood, this is both an album good for background music and one that bears up to close listening. This has shades of Cascadian bands, but generally reminds me more of the "woodsy" Black Metal of Dwarrowdelf, Elffor, or early Behemoth. Definitely an album to check out if you like this kind of thing. |
