First new material since 1993 for Vio-lence, which I didn’t know were still around, so this came as a surprise. They promised material in the vein of classic Vio-lence and this is exactly it, maybe even better. I gave Oppressing the Masses a listen recently and the stuff on Let the World Burn sounds so much better to me. The modern production does the band’s sound some good without taking away the old-school vibe and the sheer raw thrash sound that oozes out of the speakers through the unfortunately short run time (I could have used a full album of this stuff, and then some). Bay Area thrash is what this is, but not the more polished kind. It’s quite aggressive and dark and, again, that run sound really brings things home. Great stuff from these guys, yet another band that proves that you don’t have to tone it down as you age. Let the World Burn could very well have been released by a bunch of energetic youngsters back in the mid-80s. |
