Frank Gradeen is a Swedish musician who claims to have had a hand as a songwriter for the band Crimson (the Swedish one), so I’ll admit I was curious to see what he could do on his own when a promo for his upcoming single showed up in my inbox. True to its name, this is only a single song, and it’s sadly not that good. It’s got some decent driving riffs reminiscent of old ‘80s acts, but the songwriting is pretty static and never does much with them. That alone would make this uninteresting, but the vocals are what really drags this down, as they’re an exaggerated baritone that I think is meant to be a bit goofy, but end up sounding flat and silly in a way that makes this hard to take seriously. I wouldn’t go as far as to say future efforts will be just as pointless, but if this is anything to go off of, he’ll need to do a lot better if he wants to get noticed.
